A property management system is a system of record. It tells you the state a room was in the last time someone updated it. What it can't tell you is what's happening on the floor right now.
The space between statuses
"Dirty" and "clean" are endpoints. The interesting part is everything in between: the room that's been stripped but is waiting on a light fitting, the one that failed inspection, the one a guest just requested early. Those are the states that decide whether 3pm check-in actually happens.
